Or at least they should be species appropriate… many manufacturers will lump cats and dogs together when in fact cats have very specific requirements that may not be met when purchasing a commercial raw food.

Therefore, when purchasing raw food for your kitty, (and we applaud you for doing that!) You do need to look out for a few things:

1.Calcium/Phosphorus ratio. Felines have quite a narrow range of the calcium to phosphorus content of their diet. The best range for cats is 1.2 – 1.4:1 Calcium is found in bone and phosphorous is found in muscle meat and organs. Not only will Various types of meat have various levels of phosphorous, but thigh meat will have different amounts than breast meat.It is essential that the raw food you buy follow the above mentioned ratio. If the information is not readily available on the manufacturers web site, nor on the package, (which is all too common) you will need to email or call them. Make sure you get a definitive answer with the exact numbers including how they arrived to them. An imbalance of Calcium and Phosphorous can cause a serious problems. Then we have the:

2.Amount of Vegetable matter. Adding some vegetables to a feline diet is OK as long as it is a small percentage. 3-5% is OK. The food you feed should contain max 10% veggies. The percentage may not be available and you may need to contact the manufacturer. Garlic and onions can cause anemia in cats and should never be used. Tomatoes can exacerbate arthritis and most vegetables will raise the urinary pH which can cause urinary tract issues. Herbs should never be used long term and are frequently added to raw prepared diets.

3.Organ meats. Does the food contain organ meats and at what proportion? Feline diets should contain approximately 10% organ meats. Organs provide important vitamins and other nutrients vital for the cat.

4.Taurine. Taurine is an essential amino acid. Cats are unable to synthesize Taurine, therefore it needs to be provided in the food. In the wild cats naturally consume meats and prey high in Taurine. Mice are naturally very high in Taurine. A cat eating plenty of mice would be assured of their Taurine requirement. But what cat eats fresh mice regularly? While all meats contain Taurine to some degree, handling and freezing the meat diminishes the amount. Some meats, like rabbit have a dangeroulsy low amount of Taurine while chicken hearts have a high amount. Why keep track of all that when it is so easy to add some taurine yourself? Not only is taurine inexpensive it takes a second to add some to the food at the time of feeding. We recommend about 1000 mg per pound of meat. In the early days of commercial pet food, thousands of cats died before the pet food companies discovered that they have to add taurine. Taurine deficiencies can cause blindness and heart disease which can be fatal.

These are some of my favorite sights and sounds in Arlington.
1. Dallas Cowboys stadium is extremely impressive, it seats 80,000 comfortably and can be increased to 110,000 people. The stadium is fully enclosed with a retractile roof and can be used for many different venues. You can get a tour of the stadium which takes about an hour and well worth it!

2. There is Six Flags over Texas which is fun for the entire family! If you haven’t ever been before to a Six Flags then this is the time to go and try one out! With tons of exhilarating rides for adults and kids your sure to have a great day!

3. The Country Peddler Show comes to Arlington Convention Center in March, August and November every year. People from all around converge to sell just about anything you can imagine. Among the menagerie of goodies to be found are stained glass, stepping stones, homemade jelly, specialty clothing, candles, handmade quilts … and too much more to list!

4. Daired’s Salon & Spa Pangea is the only facility in the DFW area to offer a hair salon, full service day spa, caf, and conference center … all under one roof! Arlington Texas Sports

Arlington Texas is one of the largest cities in America. It has plenty of attractions for everyone, from Dallas Cowboys to Texas Rangers MLB team. Arlington is the home of the Texas Rangers baseball team, and is the home of the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys’ new stadium will host Super Bowl XLV in 2011.

As in the rest of Texas, Friday night high school football is a widespread obsession with fans of all ages. Arlington High School owns the city’s only state football championship, having won it in’51 under head coach Mayfield Workman. Lamar High School nearly pulled off the same feat in’90, but had to settle for a state runner-up title.

In recent years, Bowie High School, Martin High School and Mansfield Summit High School (a Mansfield ISD school located within Arlington) have enjoyed some success. The University of Texas at Arlington used to field a football team, but the program was canceled in’85 due to funding issues and waning attendance. The football vacancy at the campus stadium, Maverick Stadium, was quickly filled by Arlington High and subsequently Bowie High School. Cravens Field, on the campus of Lamar, and Wilemon Field, on the campus of Sam Houston, are home to the other four teams in the city. Both have enjoyed a history of close and dramatic games.

Did you know that Arlington is the home of several notable athletes.’98 American League Rookie of the Year Ben Grieve graduated from Martin High School in’94. Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Vernon Wells grew up in Arlington and attended Bowie High School, Houston Astros outfielder Hunter Pence attended Arlington High School and played collegiate baseball at UTA, and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher John Lackey also played for UTA. UTA also produced Doug Russell, who won two gold medals in swimming at the Mexico City Olympics in’68 and for whom a park on campus is named.

Champion bodybuilder (Mr. Olympia’98-2005) and former Arlington police officer, Ronnie Coleman resides in Arlington. Houston Comets Guard Erin Grant grew up in Arlington and attended Mansfield high school where she became the first high school basketball player to win four state championships. She currently holds the Big 12 assist record. Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Mark Clayton graduated from Sam Houston High School in 2000 and was part of the University of Oklahoma’s 2001 national championship team. Jared Connaughton, sprinter for the 2008 Canada Olympic team, was a sprinter for the UT Arlington team.

New Investor In The UFC?

Current WWE executive, and Vice President Shane McMahon, who will leave the company at the beginning of January, is looking into the possibility of buying a financial interest within the UFC, and has cashed out $50 of his $80 million dollars in WWE stock to do so.

UFC President Dana White has always said that he would be willing to let someone take a ‘piece of the pie’ in his billion dollar empire, and while it may seem unorthodox, Shane McMahon would be the perfect partner. It is reported that Shane and the UFC President have already had meetings, and Shane was also present in the crowd at UFC 91.

It is well documented that UFC are now overtaking the WWE in PPV sales, but whereas WWE has had a 10 year head start on the UFC, Shane believes it will never reach the heights that it did in the early’90’s, and the UFC’s merchandise sales are still suffering. This is where McMahon comes in.

He is well known for securing large international business deals, something the UFC has been trying to do for two years, and during the UFC Fight Club last week in Vegas, Dana White declined to discuss anything that was said in the meeting with McMahon, just citing him as “a good friend” and “you never know.”

I know what you are thinking “this sounds a bit weird with the WWE Shane McMahon buying into the UFC” but all in all this could be an excellent peace of business for the UFC. Shane McMachon has a wealth of business knowledge that can only enhance the UFC image worldwide. The only downside is when people think of Shane McMahon they think of the WWE which can’t be good for the UFC. As we all know WWE is completely unreal a bit like a pantomime with good and bad guys. The UFC however is the complete opposite! Will this have a negative effect on the UFC? I personally don’t think so! However if that thought comes to me then I’m sure it will come to other people.

Either way, without Shane McMahon the UFC will continue to grow its numbers worldwide!
