Music is said to be medicine to the soul. There are items that go hand in hand with music to make it even more appealing. Among them is the guitar. A guitar is a stringed instrument which is played through plucking. The most common types of guitars have six strings but there are those that exist which have four, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, thirteen and eighteen strings.
The make of the guitars is also different, depending on the type of sound that it produces. The sound produced is dependent on the size as well as the shape of the guitar. The two major types of guitars that exist are the electric and the acoustic guitars. Under these two categories are other more specific types. One would not be able to completely tell the difference between them unless he plays them and carefully detects the differences in sound and pitch.
The acoustic guitars are made of nylon strings, but they vary from one place to another. One very common type of guitar that falls under this category is the ukulele, which draws its history from the braginho or cavaquinhos of Portugal. The guitar is made in such a way that is has a flat top/face and a rounded hole from which the sound is produced. While this is the general make of the guitars that fall under the acoustic guitar category, others have different shapes and the sizes of the sound hole also differ.
The electric guitars are mostly used for rock music, but they are also used for other types of music like jazz, blues and pop. The guitars require an amplifier for them to have the desired effect, unlike the acoustic guitars. They have hollow bodies and the sound effect is very clearly different from that produced by the acoustic guitars. The shape of the electric guitar is such that, it is easy to play the instrument as they are very slim and they produce a variety of tones. The two common types of guitars that fall under this category are the Fender Stratocaster and the Gibson Les Paul.
